This Week at EastLake Elementary School – January 20th – 23rd

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

This is a reminder that there will be no school on Monday, January 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We hope you enjoy the holiday.

Safe Campus

Thank you for your continued support as we transition to our Safe Campus procedures. With your help, the transition has gone smoothly, and we truly appreciate your cooperation and patience.

As we continue to improve, we are working through a few minor details. One important reminder is that all parents and guardians who check in must also remember to check out before leaving campus. This helps us ensure the safety of all students and staff.

Thank you again for partnering with us to keep our campus safe and secure.

ELPAC Testing for English Learners

ELPAC Testing Dates: February 2nd – March 20th

If your child is learning English alongside their primary language, they are considered an English learner. The ELPAC measures their progress in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English.

The test includes a speaking portion, where your child’s voice will be recorded to verify scores, but these recordings will not be saved or shared.

How You Can Help Your Child Prepare:

  • Explain the Test: Let your child know that the ELPAC is a tool to help them improve, so they don’t need to feel anxious.
  • Encourage Effort: Remind them that you and their teacher are there to support them.
  • Talk to Their Teacher: Discuss your child’s progress in language skills to better support them at home.
  • Try Practice Tests: Visit the ELPAC practice site to get familiar with the test format.

What to Expect After the Test:

You’ll receive results by the start of the next school year. This will show where your child is excelling and where they may need more support.

For more info, visit the Starting Smarter website or check out the CDE Parent Guides.

Safe Campus Policy:

Dear EastLake Families:

I am writing to inform you that at the December 2026 Board of Education Meeting, the Board revised Board Policy 3515.1, Campus Access and Safety, to outline the procedures for parents/guardians to safely check in and accompany their children on campus during morning drop-off.

Following the Board’s decision, parents/guardians are allowed to enter the school for morning breakfast and/or drop-off, as long as they sign into the Chula Vista Elementary School District’s visitor management system, Raptor. Parents must exit campus by the first bell.

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that we are aware of who is on campus at all times, helping us maintain a safe and secure learning environment. To ensure a smooth and safe process, our school will follow these operational guidelines:

Morning Drop-Off:

  1. Parents/guardians must check in at the school office using the Raptor visitor management system.
  2. After check-in, parents/guardians may accompany their child to the designated morning drop-off area or escort them to their classroom.
  3. Parents/guardians may attend morning breakfast with their child, provided they have signed in using Raptor and leave by the first bell.
  4. Parents/guardians must proceed directly to the designated area and exit campus immediately after drop-off by the first bell.
  5. Parents/guardians must sign out of Raptor upon leaving campus.
  6. Parents/guardians must follow all site-specific safety procedures while on campus.

At the end of the school day, students will be dismissed through the designated gates for pickup by their parents or guardians. All students in LEAD or YMCA programs must continue to adhere to check-out policies in those programs.

We appreciate your cooperation and support in ensuring the safety and well-being of all students and staff.

Attention All 5th Grade Parents:

In February 2026 our students in 5th, 7th, and 9th grade will participate in the California Physical Fitness Test (PFT). The FITNESSGRAM1 is the required annual PFT for students in grades five, seven, and nine in California public schools. This health-related fitness test, developed by The Cooper Institute, is intended to help students acquire lasting habits of regular physical activity.

The FITNESSGRAM includes tests for five areas of fitness, including Aerobic Capacity, Abdominal Strength and Endurance, Trunk Extensor Strength and Flexibility, Upper Body Strength and Endurance, and Flexibility. There are two or three test options for most of the fitness areas of the FITNESSGRAM so that all students, including those with special needs, have the chance to participate in the PFT. For those fitness areas that have multiple options, only one option is reported for each student.

Our students will receive their results upon completion of the PFT. These results will help students understand their individual levels of fitness. Students are encouraged to talk about these results with their parents or guardians and their physical education teacher. Parents and guardians can use these results to help their children plan appropriate fitness activities.

If you have any questions about your child’s participation in the PFT, the FITNESSGRAM, or the test results, please contact your child’s teacher. Additional information about the PFT are available on the California Department of Education PFT Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/pf/.
