There was so much to be proud of last week and to look forward to in the last weeks of the school year! Our Eagles did an amazing job on our statewide CAASPP testing and remained focused the entire week. We had the opportunity to show off our visual and performing arts skills at our VAPA Showcases. Our sports teams showed their dedication and determination in their games last week. We can’t wait to see more ways our students are demonstrating their learning this week through the end-of-the-year events!

There will be no school on Monday, May 29th as we celebrate Memorial Day. Memorial Day began as a way to honor those who died in the Civil War and has become a day to honor all American veterans who gave their lives in sacrifice to our nation.

Extended Learning Opportunities
We will be hearing a lot about ELOP. The state has given district money to do after-school programs and extend student learning.
Extended learning means after school and before school, weekends, summer, or intersessions that focus on developing pupils’ academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests.
These funds will cover materials, fees, transportation (field trips), and staffing. Priority will be given to unduplicated students. BUT ALL are welcome. SA and IA will be included if a student already has it in their IEP.
The minimum requirement for staffing ratio: TK-K: 10:1, 1-6: 20:1
If you are interested in running a program the pay is $50 per hour. THIS IS FOR ALL STAFF and PARENTS who may be interested (parents just need to apply to the district as an IA).
I already have people interested in doing: Broadcast team, Soccer, …
*Parents would like a chess club, more sports, homework help with access to tech., homework bubbies, and before-school reading in the library. Students have expressed an interest in more science and sports. More ideas: music, academics (reading, math, writing, science, social studies), homework help, art, knitting, cooking, dance, community service, Spanish, enrichment, etc
What would you like to offer? Are you interested in running an extended-learning opportunity for students at EastLake. It could run for one day a week or 5 days a week. The times are flexible too.
I will be sending applications for programs by May 30th, so if you are interested let me know. We don’t have to have the details yet just the proposals. cynthia.orr@cvesd.org
